CHAPTER 1

DR HDMI 8K Overview

The DR HDMI 8K is an HDMI 2.1 EDID manager, emulator and repeater that sits between an HDMI source and the rest of the chain, up to 8K60 / 4K120 at 48Gbps.

The DR HDMI 8K is a single-input, single-output HDMI 2.1 device that supports signals up to Full UHD 8K60 and 4K120 with VRR, FRL6, 1500MHz and 48Gbps bandwidth. Its purpose is to let you take control of the EDID that a source reads, so that EDID problems from the oldest to the newest HDMI revision can be resolved deliberately rather than by trial and error.

Because the unit sits in the middle of the chain, it also reports what is actually happening on the link. Signal state, FRL rate, and the EDID of both the connected sink and the EDID presented to the source are shown on the OLED display and in the embedded web server.

What you can control

Over 100 EDID banks can be selected, or an automixed EDID can be built by taking the connected sink EDID and forcing individual video and audio flags on or off. That covers FRL rate, VRR, ALLM, HDR mode and Dolby Vision, plus the full set of audio capability flags.

Three ways to drive it

  1. Rotary switch on the unit. Up, down and press, with the OLED as the display. Enough for cycling info pages and reaching the on-device menu.
  2. Embedded web server. Any device on the same network with a browser: computer, phone or tablet. This is where the full EDID, Dolby Vision and configuration workflows live.
  3. IP, Telnet and HTTP commands. For control systems and automation. The complete command list ships as a text file with each firmware package.
Source: this chapter follows the official DR HDMI 8K user manual (Rev 1.2). Where a setting or value matters exactly, check it against the complete PDF manual rather than an abbreviated web summary.

Where to start

If the unit is not connected yet, start with connecting the cables. If it is already running and you want to change what the source sees, go straight to the MAIN section of the web server.
