My display is supposed to accept 4K60 4:4:4 signals but it does not work?
Most UHD TVs have extra configuration options that must be enabled before a 4K60 4:4:4 600MHz link is accepted. On Samsung sets, for example, go to settings, then HDMI, then UHD Colour and enable it, and additionally assign the HDMI port as PC in the tools menu. Only after both steps will 600MHz be accepted. Similar activation steps are required on most UHD TVs, and many only have specific ports that are 600MHz capable.
I have a PC mode on my TV or a PC monitor. What resolutions are supported for graphics mode?
All PC graphics modes within the 1500MHz bandwidth are supported, including ultra-high resolutions such as WQSXGA, QUXGA, QFHD, WQUXGA and 4K/8K.
What input and output resolutions are supported in HDTV mode?
All known SD, HD, Full HD and UHD formats are supported, including 480i50, 480i60, 480p50, 480p60, 576p50, 576p60, 720p50, 720p60, 720p100, 720p120, 1080i25, 1080i30, 1080p24, 1080p25, 1080p30, 1080p48, 1080p50, 1080p60, 1080p72, 1080p75, 1080p96, 1440p50, 1440p60, 2160p24, 2160p25, 2160p30, 2160p50 and 2160p60. These are examples only: anything within the 1500MHz bandwidth is supported.
What version of HDMI does it work with? Do I need 1.3, 1.4a, 2.0a, 2.0b or 2.1?
It does not matter. The DR HDMI 8K works with any version of HDMI from 1.0 upwards.
Do I need to set anything special in my HDMI source to get the right resolution?
No. The DR HDMI 8K is detected as an 8K capable device by the source, and it will always accept and process the highest quality stream the source can produce. There is no need to set the source to a specific resolution.
Is there any latency added to the signal?
Virtually none. The added latency is in the order of a few pixel clocks, which is not noticeable.
What about long HDMI cable runs? Can I expect problems?
For 600MHz, use high speed or 600MHz/18Gbps certified cables, ideally between roughly 2 and 4 metres for proper 600MHz/18Gbps pass-through. For 4K30, 1080p and below, almost any cable is fine. The DR HDMI 8K acts as an HDMI repeater, so placing it in the path amplifies and recovers the signal and usually removes the need for a separate passive or active amplifier. It has been used with cable runs of 15 metres and longer, in copper, active and fibre.
How are lossless audio formats such as DTS-HD MA and Dolby TrueHD handled?
They are passed through unchanged. The DR HDMI 8K does not compress or down-convert incoming audio.
Can I power the unit from a USB port instead of another mains plug?
It depends on the port. Power consumption scales with signal bandwidth; 5V 2A is the recommended supply, and around 5V 1.5A is what is needed to operate at maximum capability. A single USB port is specified at 5V 0.5A, which is not enough. In practice USB ports are usually implemented behind a four-port hub chipset that shares power across the ports, so if you use only one port of four you can often draw up to 5V 2A from it and the unit will work.
