When a source powers up or receives a hot-plug event, it reads EDID from the downstream chain. That data can influence resolution, frame rate, colour format, HDR behaviour, VRR, ALLM and audio format selection. In a simple source-to-TV connection this often works invisibly. In a chain that includes an AVR, processor, switch, long cable run or unusual display, the negotiation becomes much harder to diagnose.
The three active EDID modes
The DR HDMI 8K web interface exposes three main modes described in the manual.
1. Copy TX sink
Use the EDID from the device connected to HDMI OUT. This keeps the sink's own capabilities intact while still giving you a diagnostic point in the signal chain.
2. Custom EDID
Select from the available predefined EDID tables or use a custom EDID. The manual lists profiles from 480p through 8K-class modes, with combinations of HDR, VRR and different audio capability sets.
3. Copy sink EDID and modify
Start with the connected sink EDID, then change selected advertised capabilities. The web interface provides controls for FRL rate, VRR, ALLM, HDR, Dolby Vision and multiple audio flags.
100 predefined EDID tables
The manual lists 100 predefined entries. They cover combinations including 8K60, 4K120, 4K60, 1080p and lower-resolution modes, with VRR, HDR and different audio capability sets. This is useful because a known preset lets you change one negotiation variable without rebuilding an EDID from scratch.
Custom EDID workflows
Active EDID tables can be downloaded. The current EDID can be stored in custom slots, and an EDID file can be uploaded into a selected custom table. That makes the unit useful not only as an emulator, but also as an EDID capture and reuse tool.

Why EDID control helps troubleshooting
The practical benefit is not that an EDID manager can make unsupported hardware support a format. It cannot. The benefit is that you can stop presenting capabilities that are causing negotiation trouble, or present a known capability set to determine whether the source behaves differently.
