In plain language
One click writes a file containing the active state and the configuration: which mode is running, what both sides of the link report, the network settings, the display options, and the raw capability data itself.
Why it matters in your setup
Three uses. Before a firmware update, so you can restore your settings instead of rebuilding them. For support, because a file describing the exact state beats a description from memory every time. And as a record, so a setup that took an afternoon to get right can be reproduced.
One caution: the export contains the serial number, MAC address and local IP addresses. Strip those before posting it in public.
What the DR HDMI 8K does with it
EXPORT CONFIG on the DR HDMI 8K's CONFIG page writes DR8K-CONFIG-DATE.txt. It covers product and firmware identity, live link state, both EDID sets with their video and audio capabilities, the active EDID mode and table, the full network configuration, the OLED settings, and the complete raw RX and TX EDID blocks in hexadecimal.
